Nurosynk is an experimental duo, formed by Miles Horler and Andrew Batt-Rawden in 2022. It uses a combination of amplified /acoustic cellos, voices, keyboards, percussion, as well as a range of other electronic and acoustic instrumentation. Focussing mainly on improvisation, Nurosynk also has an interest in multimedia performances.

For the 2022 Sydney Fringe Festival, Nurosynk did a 4.1 surround sound installation piece, where they built layers of intricate loops using sound input from conventional instruments, voices, assorted percussion, miscellaneous household items, and makeshift electronics. This was in part thanks to a development grant provided by Create NSW. A studio recording of this work was included in their album ‘Oracle’.

As part of the 2023 Sydney World Pride Festival, Nurosynk produced a multimedia show show titled ‘Songs Of The Grind’. In this, Miles and Andrew put their life experience as queer artists on display. The first half was a sporadic combination of song, cabaret theatre and dance. The second half featured two pre recorded videos, which Miles and Andrew had each narrated, telling poetic, evocative stories from their queer lives.

In 2024, Miles joined up with Andrew’s long running company Chronology Arts. Along with a collective of other multidisciplinary performers in the areas of sound and movement, they have performed multiple live showcases of improvised exploration. Miles and Andrew look forward to many more collaborations together, as part of Nurosynk, Chronology and beyond.
